About

Hello, my name is Randy Jacob. I am the owner, designer, and craftsman of Jacobs Woodworking Plus. My goal in this business is to have fun while exploring the endless opportunities of creativity in woodworking. I enjoy re-purposing or recycling old to make new useful decorative art pieces, saving trees and useful yard waste from going to the landfill when possible. Living in Arizona, I like to hike the desert collecting dead Cholla Cactus and other items that can be used in castings for pens.

I am a self educated woodworker with no formal training other than wood shop in school.  Weekend mornings I often start my day watching woodworking videos on YouTube.  I find this a great resource for inspiration and developing techniques. I credit much of my woodworking skill to the New Yankee Workshop. I believe I have seen every episode ever broadcast.  Norm, I’m one of your biggest fans!  I am supported by my wife of 35 years, Pam and my daughter Jenna.  Pam is my toughest critic and I am grateful for her honesty.  Jenna always helps me be me creatively.

My interest in woodworking goes back to my earliest childhood memories. I purchased my first power tool at 16. It was a Craftsman 3/8″ electric drill. I continued buying hand held power tools over the next year and at 18 started purchasing stationary tools like my 6″ belt sander, band saw and 10″ radial arm saw.  All purchases from those days were Craftsman Tools and I still have them to this day; over 44 years now.  Approximately 10 years ago I added a Nova Lathe to my shop. The lathe changed the way I spend my free time. A real eye opener of the potential of the lathe was walking out to the wood pile and selecting a piece of Pistachio wood and turning a beautiful decorative bowl out of it. I would have burned that wood if I didn’t have the lathe.  In the past year, I have added a 3’x5′ CNC Router and a Thunder USA 35/100 watt Laser to the shop.
